Who was Dr. Mark?
Dr. Mark Maddy worked as a full professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, where he taught teacher education candidates. He had 27 years of experience teaching in a variety of public education settings, working with students from age 3-73. He studied human development for nearly 40 years, starting with undergraduate work in psychology. He has a BS in Music/Psychology, an MEd in Guidance and Counseling, and an EdD in Educational Leadership and Change. He was a certified Dream Builder Life Coach and has developed curriculum based on his dissertation on maximizing potential.
Dr. Mark was a survivor. In late August 1982, as a junior in college, he suffered a spinal cord injury which left him paralyzed from the chest down. He spent the better part of the next 10 months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers. He returned to his studies in August 1983 and graduated in 1985. He had other physical setbacks, yet despite the odds, he was healthy, vibrant, and ready to share the lessons he has learned in the classroom, as well as in life. Dr. Mark passed away on July 3, 2021. He created a legacy of strength, perseverance and passion for making the most of life. He is greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and students.
