The Hero’s Journey. In every tale, the hero faces challenges to overcome, and when they do, they move into their purpose and pass along the lessons learned. Each one of us has our own hero’s journey. Whatever obstacles have been in our lives have presented us with opportunities to grow. After we have learned those lessons, our job then is to help someone else. What is your hero’s journey? What lessons do you need to share with others?

From where I sit, I share the lessons learned.

Purpose. Each of us has a purpose in this life, a calling to fill our niche in our families, communities, etc. Many of us spend most of our time in busyness that we don’t get down to the business of identifying that purpose and fulfilling it. If we take the time to do some self-examination and contemplate what truly makes us feel alive, we will find that that is where our purpose lies. If we move past the busyness, take time to get quiet and listen, we will reveal our purpose – our blueprint – upon which we can build.

From where I sit, I take time to get quiet and listen, and my purpose is revealed.

Listening. Many of us want to help make the world a better place, yet we continue to rush through our days and fill them with busyness. In order to determine a course of action that will make a difference, we must first ask the right questions, then listen for the answer. As we ask the voice of the Divine within us for guidance as to what we should do, where we should go, and to whom we should speak, we follow that up with effortful listening. We actively pay attention. We wait for guidance, and then we act.

From where I sit, I will pay attention, wait for guidance, and put the Divine plan in motion.

Responding Instead of Reacting. There is a profound difference between the concept of reacting and responding. A thermometer reacts to the stimulus around it, reporting things as it reads it. A thermostat, on the other hand, responds to the information it receives, processes it, and makes a change. All too often, we act as thermometers and shout out things from our perspective without thinking, without consideration, and without empathy. When we take the time to input the information and process it, we are able to affect change in our own lives or in those around us.

From where I sit, I will take the time to respond.

Impeccability of Your Word. Watching what we say is one of the most difficult tasks that we face. Being impeccable with our words means that we are going to choose words that are connecting rather than dividing, uplifting rather than putdowns, and loving rather than hurtful. This is not only for the words that we speak to other people, but also to those words we speak to ourselves. The impeccability of our words starts with recognizing our own value and importance, rather than the negative messages that we tell ourselves regarding our appearance, intelligence, etc. Be aware of your negative self-talk. As you change it, you change your interactions with the people around you.

From where I sit, I take care with the words that I speak to myself and to others!

Love Holds No Grievances. If we are loved and are conceived by the love of the Divine, then holding grievances means that we have forgotten who we are. At the very core of every one of us is love. Sometimes it is hard to see that love in those around us, but it is our responsibility to operate from love. Loving someone doesn’t mean that we must allow them to act unlovingly toward us, but we are called to love and release grievances, grudges, and gripes.

From where I sit, I will respond to grievances with love.

You Are Loved. I was once in a relationship wherein I told my partner, “You are loved.” I said it in that way because it was an inherent part of who they were. That is one of the most difficult lessons for us to learn – we are loved. We don’t have to do anything. It just is a fact. For many of us, that means undoing all of the training we underwent as children that told us that we had to be a specific way, do specific things, etc. in order for us to be loved by our parents and/or society as a whole. The truth is that we are loved, unconditionally, unfailingly, and eternally.

From where I sit, I know that I am loved and so are you.

Drama Is a Choice. Each day, we have challenges to face. Challenges cause stress. How we deal with the stress is our choice. Do we broadcast how stressed we are and create drama around it? Do we exacerbate the stress by telling everyone we know – and even telling strangers – about how terrible things are? Or do we choose peace? When we face our challenges and the stresses that accompany them from a place of calm, the challenges become more manageable. If we can start each day with gratitude on our lips for what we do have and take time to quiet the mind, we can handle the stress.

Drama is a choice, and from where I sit, I will leave it for soap operas, TV programs, and movies.

I am co-creator of my life. If I am lacking joy, peace, or love, it is because I am creating situations that make those impossible. When I ignore that “still, small voice”, I am creating out of fear, which brings sorrow and sadness. When I tap into the divine that is within me, I create from love, which brings peace and joy.

From where I sit, I create from the divine within, and I know peace and joy.
