Forgiving Gives Us Strength. Holding onto grudges and remembering the pain that others have caused us only serve to weaken. Forgiveness gives us strength by releasing the negative energy that surrounds the incident or incidents. Forgiveness does not tell us to forget; it only clears the way for growth.

From where I sit, I seek the strength found in forgiveness.

Remembering Who We Are. From early ages, many of us are taught that we have been separated from the Source of who we are. We are labeled “sinners” and proceed to hate ourselves because we believe that God hates us as well. The label, the self-hate, and the belief that the Source of All Creation hates us create the illusion of separateness. As we take the time to get quiet and contemplate who we are, we remember that we came from a source of love and that is the essence of who we are. As we remember, let’s help the other generations that follow us know their place earlier and not waste so many years in self-hate.

From where I sit, I accept myself and remember that nothing can separate me from the love of God.

Divine Protection. Within each of us is the divine spark of God. Whether you acknowledge that fact or not does not mean that it is not true. You may call it by other names, but it is still within you – it is you. When we listen to that voice, we are protected. It doesn’t mean that challenges – sickness, financial worries, etc. – won’t appear in your life. It means that when we tune in to that dial, we have peace that all will turn out as it should be.

From where I sit, I tune my dial to the voice within.

I am responsible for what I see. Everything that I have in my life is the result of choices made in the past. I can moan and complain about what is happening now, or I can take responsibility by accepting what the circumstances are and make a choice for what tomorrow will bring. The decisions I make today will directly impact what comes to me in the future. I can make those decisions out of fear or out of love.

From where I sit, I will make my decisions out of love.

Confidence. When we embark on a new project, we have the option to believe that it is going to be difficult or believe that it is going to be easy. The former comes from a sense of fear and doubt, and the latter comes from a sense of confidence in our abilities. It is all a matter of perspective. When we listen to those outside of us, many times they tell us we can’t. When we listen to that inner voice, it always tells us that we can. Which voice are you going to put your confidence in? It is a choice. Choose wisely.

From where I sit, I listen confidently to that inner voice that tells me, “I can!”

Escape Your Closet. Whenever we are trying to hide some aspect of our personality or persona, we are putting it in a closet because we fear other people judging that aspect of us. Whether it’s because you are a vegan, a member of the Howdy Doody Club, or that you had a crush on Homer Simpson, bring it out of the closet! Celebrate things that make you, you. Closets are for coats and storage, not for important aspects of who you are.

From where I sit, I celebrate the things that make me, me!

You Are Not Your Label. In medicine and in education, clients and students are labeled and put into categories. Many of us immerse ourselves in those labels and forget who we are. We give power to others to define us and limit us through those labels. If we shift our focus from the limit of the label to the possibilities beyond that label, we are empowered to live our best life. Remove the label and define yourself.

From where I sit, I embrace self-empowerment and reject the labels.

You Are Loved. For many of us, we are single on this day that we celebrate love. Despite that fact, we each have relationships that demonstrate the true power of love. The love of family, the love of friends, the unconditional love of pets, and most importantly, the love of the Creator are there for us, not just today, but always. In the midst of loneliness, disagreement, and fear, it is to those sources of love we can turn to lighten the load and enlighten the path.

From where I sit, I know that I am loved, and so are you.

Dancing in the Rain. We’ve all heard the saying about dancing in the rain instead of complaining about it. No matter what happens to us during this lifetime, it’s important to listen to that inner voice that is composing music for us to dance to. Is that Composer going to write death marches, or will we let Him/Her compose a waltz or maybe even a jig? The music we dance to is directly contingent upon the voice we allow to compose it – whether it is a voice of fear or a voice of love.

From where I sit, my Composer is writing a love song for me.
